Couples Counseling Services

MyTherapyNYC is a mental health group practice that offers counseling to individuals and couples in the Flatiron neighborhood of New York City. Integrative therapy may include some combination of the following: meditation support, mindfulness, breathing techniques, stress response training, guided imagery, somatic psychotherapy, Focusing, Brainspotting and EMDR therapy to help clients strengthen inner resources and develop self-soothing techniques with the goal of developing a healthier life-balance.
Whatever your situation is, I can help you slow down and create the stability and calm you need in order to work on what needs to be worked on. As I help couples establish a safe-enough environment that is conducive to constructive communication, I also begin helping them to understand what is required from each partner in order to move the relationship in the right direction.



This fall, barring a disaster, we'll celebrate 30 years of marriage, a chunk of time that has been part bliss, part hellscape, with lots of regular life thrown in. Perhaps bits of our therapists' wisdom sneaked past our cynicism and slipped into the corners of our relationship, flattening out some of the kinks.
Therapists may use or combine the following approaches: psychoanalysis, psychodynamic psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, relational therapy, interpersonal, humanistic, gestalt, attachment-focused therapy, art therapy, trauma resolution techniques as well as evidence-based therapies such as EMDR therapy, Somatic Experiencing (SE), Dialectical Behavior Therapy or DBT, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or CBT to name a few.

Marriage Couples Counseling in NYC provides compassionate and personalized marriage therapy for couples who want nothing more than to mend and heal their relationship, as well as help with overcoming past struggles and disappointments they have been bottling up over the years.
Therapy for individuals, (also known as psychotherapy or counseling) focuses on working on the thinking that leads to unhealthy negative emotions (anger, anxiety, panic, depression, guilt, shame, etc) and the unhealthy, self-defeating behaviors that go with them.
To meet the examination requirements for licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist in New York State, you must pass the "Examination in Marital and Family Therapy" developed by the Association of Marital and Family Therapy Regulatory Boards (AMFTRB) and administered by Professional Testing Corporation (PTC).

A master's or higher degree from a program in an allied mental health field acceptable to the Department (including but not limited to social work, psychology and mental health counseling) and additional graduate level coursework, if needed, determined by the Department to provide the substantial equivalent professional education of a licensure qualifying program in Marriage and Family Therapy.
Problems can be a tricky pitfall in therapy: We tend to understand a pre-condition of therapy as having problems.” Sometimes that's clear (we fight a lot, we deeply disagree about fundamental matters) and sometimes there's not much wrong”-no problems, per se-and yet one or both participants in the relationship want more.
My masters in Psychology emphasis was marriage and family therapy, and I have been licensed in New York and Vermont as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, held clinical divorce recovery membership in AAMFT, the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy, as well as a board position in the New York Association of Marriage and Family Therapy.
